Fun Things to Do this 4th of July on your Holden Beach Vacation

Can you believe that the 4^th of July is just around the corner? And we know that you must be getting excited to spend time at the beach. This year many of the fun things are coming back so your family can enjoy your vacation. Staying in one of our Holden Beach vacation rentals will keep your family close to the action. Let’s look below at what fun things are happening around the area this 4^th of July.

NC 4^th of July Festival & Fireworks

The NC 4^th of July Festival & Fireworks are typically held in Southport, NC, but many of the events will be happening on Oak Island this year. Start the 4-day festival head on over to Oak Island to celebrate their Beach Day on July 1^st. This will include a full day of games, food, and entertainment that begins at 8:00 am. Fireworks will start at 9:00 pm over at the Oak Island Pier, where everyone will be able to social distance. On Saturday and Sunday, you can experience the Red, White & Blue Car Show, a tradition for many to attend, and many other things that day. The Fireworks display will conclude a wonderful Holliday weekend from the Oak Island pier and be seen for miles, and you don’t want to miss that.

Ocean Isle Beach 4^th of July Parade

Another fun event that is happening nearby is the 4^th of July Parade at nearby Ocean Isle Beach. Beginning at 3:00 pm, you’ll be able to see the fun decorated golf carts, cars, bikes, and more head down past the Coastal Museum and down 2^nd Street. This is a tradition that many families love to sit back and watch. The Ocean Isle Beach fireworks display on July 6^th this year. This is a free event that your family can attend and think of the fun you’ll have to spend with the ones you love.

Day at the Beach

If you’re looking for something to do a little more low-key, then head to the beach for the day. Pack the cooler full of drinks, water, and snacks for everyone to enjoy. Pack lunch for the day, and be sure to have enough snacks, sunscreen, and beach toys for everyone. Hunt the sand for the perfect spot, set up the umbrella, beach chairs, and towels. Easter Egg Hunt

If your family is heading to the North Carolina Coast for Easter this year, then you won’t want to miss the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. This year the egg hunt will be held at several different locations throughout Oak Island. It will take place on April 3, 2021 beginning at 9:00 am and ending at 1:00 pm. This year will be a little different compared to previous years as you need to go to the Recreation center on April 1st to grab your packet. They will be practicing social distancing during this event so be sure to read everything that comes in the packet for your family. The Easter Egg hunt is free of charge and is one that your family won’t want to miss this year on your Spring Break vacation.

NC Azalea Festival

If you are looking for a fun day that you can spend time with your family in the area, head on over to the NC Azalea Festival in Wilmington. Located about 45 minutes north of Holden Beach is where you can enjoy this fun free festival. The NC Azalea Festival will be from April 7th – 11th, 2021 and is one you don’t want to miss. Think of the fair like food and amazing vendors that will be lined up for you to browse. Take home a few things from several local vendors to remind you of this fun spring break trip!

Beach Fun

Your Spring Break vacation isn’t complete without spending some time at the Beach. Spend the day or a few days at the Beach while you soak up the sun and allow the kids to play in the surf. If you’re looking for a great kid-friendly restaurant that offers not only breakfast and lunch items but sweets too, then The Scoop is for you. Kids of all ages love eating at this restaurant as it’s perfect for the whole family to enjoy. Some of the items you’ll find on the menu are Bagel Sandwiches, Burritos, Waffles, Hot Dogs, and Sandwiches. If you’re looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth, then be sure to try out their ice cream. They have fresh waffle cones, brownies, muffins, floats, and homemade ice cream. We can promise you that this restaurant will become a favorite for your family too! Right now, it is taken out only, but don’t let that stop you from trying this fantastic restaurant out.

Find Beach Treasure on your Next Family Vacation to Holden Beach

Is your family vacation to Holden Beach coming up soon? If the answer is yes, then we just have to tell you all about the treasure you may find on the beach. When you are staying with us in one of our Oceanfront vacation rentals, you will be close to where the treasure hunt begins. There are many different kinds of treasure on the beach that you may not have known about or just forgot what is out there. Adventure is out there and getting the kids involved in the hunt can be more fun. Let’s look at what kind of hidden treasure you may find while on the beach with your family.

Sand Dollars

Did you know that you can find sand dollars on the Carolina Coast? While many thinks that these beautiful treasures can only be found in the warmer climates such as the tropics and in tropical waters. Any day you are visiting Holden Beach you and your family will be able to find several different sizes of sand dollars. Sand Dollars are also known to many as “flattened” sea urchins so having the kids on the hunt for those can make for a great day of treasure hunting. You may be able to find sand dollars after a storm during low tide. What a great souvenir to take home and share with others as you display them in your home.

Sea Glass

Sea glass is another treasure that you and your family can hunt for while on vacation to Holden Beach. This can be a wonderful item to look for just before low tide comes or just after low tide comes. In order to find them we have a few different ways to begin to search for the sea glass. Look for a beach full of shell beds rather than smooth sand because it can be found here. Zig zagging will help you find the sea glass a little better as you will be covering more ground that way. We suggest that you don’t look down at the sand, but straight ahead because you will be able to spot the sea glass better. Sea glass can be in several different colors so be on the look out while on your walk.

Shells

As you are on your hunt for the sea glass, you can also be on the hunt for some pretty interesting sea shells too. The North Carolina coastline have some beautiful shells that you will be able to take home with you. As you go for your late evening walks with the kids on the beach, be sure to bring a shell bag or a mesh bag with you. This is a good way to keep up with what you collect but won’t have to worry about bringing home more than shells. Sometimes if you wade a little in the water and dig around you can find some treasure too.
